Real Life Wedding; Love in Italy
Nina and Daniel’s gorgeous summer wedding was set against the beautiful backdrop of Tuscany’s rolling hills, with the aweinspiring views creating the perfect setting for their dream wedding.
How did you find planning the wedding, how long did it take you?
We got engaged in December 2017 and booked the wedding in January 2018 (I always knew where I wanted to get married even before I met Dan so it didn’t take long to find a venue!). We then found out we were expecting our little boy so the planning took a side step for a year whilst we navigated that! Planning the wedding was likely less stressful than it could have been if we didn’t have Xavier to focus on instead, everything just had to come together. Also, our wedding planner at Meleto was amazing and kept us on top of everything we needed to do and when.
Why did you decide to marry in Italy, can you tell us about the area?
I have always dreamed of a wedding in Italy with all our friends and family together for more than one day as I really feel like a wedding day is about joining not just the couple but the family and friends too. A castle on a vineyard in Tuscany was the perfect choice for us not only for the epic surroundings but the wine on tap (literally!) and the venue accommodating all our guests, once they arrived on the Friday no-one needed to worry about travel or taxis which was great. We knew the location and surrounding were beautiful but the food and service was more than we expected.
What was the colour theme or inspiration for the wedding?
As the venue was so beautiful and outdoor I felt we didn’t need too much additional colour or a theme, we just wanted to highlight the natural surroundings and light it up for the evening. White, Nudes, Eucalyptus and Gold were the colours with lots of candles and lights.
Where was the dress from and what designer was it?
My dress was from Coco Mio Bridal in Cardiff and by Aire Barcelona
Where did you get the other outfits from ?
The groom and his bridal party got their outfits from Slaters and the bridesmaids all chose different dresses.
What special touches did you add to the wedding?
We placed a bottle of wine from the Meleto Vineyard in our guests rooms as wedding favours and activity bags for the children. The arrival pizza and pasta party on the Friday and post wedding pool party (even in the rain) and BBQ were great special additions to the wedding.
Tell us about the photographer?
Jake Morley was our only option for photographer as he did my sisters and a few friends weddings and is still booked to do one next year, he is basically our family photographer! We were so happy he agreed to come to Italy for our wedding.
Jake is great at understanding what you want, talking to guests and takes photos of all the little things that make the venue that you would forget, his photos speak for themselves in capturing the spirit of the day and setting. Jake also offered to come to Siena where we had the legal ceremony on the Friday afternoon before arriving to our guests at Meleto on Friday evening, the photos he captured there are some of our favourites.
Would you recommend Jake to other couples?
Did you use any other suppliers from Wales?
For the bouquets, buttons holes and hair flowers we used Madi Bloom based in Llanelli. The owner Sian had done flowers for some friends weddings and I didn’t think I could use her as it was abroad so when I found out she could make silk flowers that not only look amazing but could be kept forever I was sold. The quality, attention to detail and time she took to find the right flowers and show them to me was amazing, she even made slightly different bouquets for each bridesmaid based on their dress, an individual bouquet for throwing and packaged them up safely for travel.
What was the highlight of the day?
We had so many highlights over the weekend, arriving in Siena town square to see our witnesses really kicked off the excitement, the late night singing at the arrival party, walking down the aisle for our ceremony and seeing everyone together on the top of the hill we had stood on so many times whilst planning the wedding and picturing our day, but really the best things about it all was having everyone we love together, making new friends with each other for 3 days of celebrations, wine, great food and dancing in the castle of dreams.
