Organising a wedding can be stressful at the best of times, let alone when you’re doing it from abroad. Luckily Lauren Huskings had the team from Pencoed House on hand to help make her big day a success.

Lauren Huskings and her partner Geraint King were taking a romantic walk on the beach at Caswell Bay in Swansea when he asked her to marry him. She didn’t hesitate to say yes, and soon the couple were planning a fairytale Welsh wedding. There was only one problem – most of the planning would have to be done from abroad, as the couple live in the Middle East.

Luckily, while they were still in Wales, Lauren stumbled across Pencoed House in Cardiff. The pair managed to squeeze in a visit before jetting off, and discovered more than just a venue.

“The moment we drove up the driveway to the house, we knew this was it,” says school teacher Lauren, 31.

“We loved the converted barns, stone cottage for guests and the converted piggery for the bridal suite. The decor was clean and modern but didn’t take away the rustic and authentic feel. Which was perfect for us!

“What we loved the most was that everything was all in one place – ceremony, drinks, dinner and dancing. So there was no need for buses to and fro – excellent for rainy welsh weather! It was all very easy.”

Equally important was the personal service provided by resident owner Judy and her team, which meant Lauren knew she was leaving the organisation of her big day in safe hands.

“The lead up to the wedding was really well managed with lots of emails being sent back and forth, which made things less stressful. There was always someone to help answer any questions I had.”

When the big day arrived, all that was left for Lauren to worry about was getting ready. She wore a fashionable blush pink Charlotte Balbier dress from White Bride in Narbeth, covered with ivory lace and cut out back with a long train, complemented by shoes from Emmy, London.

Her bouquets were hand tied to match the wedding’s laidback rustic feel, and florist Beth, from Forbesfield Flowers in Cardiff, even drove over to Lauren’s parents house in Neath to deliver a fresh floral piece for the stylist to integrate into Lauren’s hair.

Soon it was time to head to Pencoed House where Geraint – who wore a Ted Baker suit, Thomas Pink accessories and Loakes 1880 brogues from Brogue Trader – was waiting. The ceremony and reception went without a hitch, and so Lauren Huskings became Lauren King.

“Everything about the day was perfect from beginning to end,” Lauren says. “Food, wine, music, venue, flowers, cake… everything. And of course, the highlight has to be becoming husband and wife with all our closest friends and family there to celebrate with us.”
